Специфичности демографског развитка Источне Србије произила зе из јединствености депопулационих процеса започетих још у другој половини XIX века, а резултат су историјских збивања, аутентичног културно - историјског наслеђа и менталитета становништва које га насељава. Д анашњи размештај и етничка структура становништв а Источне Србије су резултат снажног деловања миграционих кретања у прошлости, односно досељавања нових етничких маса које су у процесима адаптације и асимилације са староседелачким становништвом дале нова социо - културна обележја овом делу Србије. Источна Србија већ више од једног века непрекидно губи популациону снагу. Узроци депопулације Источне Србије нису једноставни и једнообразни, и крећу се у широком распону, између специфичности демографског развитка са једне стране, и чиниоца, интензитета и праваца друштвено - историјског и социо - економског развоја са друге стране, као и њихове међузависности и веза. Неповољни демографски процеси у Источној Србији имају своју предисторију и почели су да се јављају раније него што су евидентирани као демографски пробле м, док неки њихови узроци сежу у далеку прошлост, па је неопходно и научно оправдано да их данас посматрамо дугорочно у оној мери колико нам то омогућавају извори података. Зато је циљ овог рада утврђивање и научно аргументовано објашњење етнодемографских карактеристика и специфичности демографског развитка Источне Србије. У том смислу , главни задаци истраживања су разматрање историјског наслеђа и савремених проблема демографског развитка, научно сагледавање демографских и недемографских утицаја на успостав љање и формирање демографских трендова и токова демографске транзиције, временско датирање и просторно детерминисање појава и последица биолошке депопулације, установљавање фаза, стадијума и последица демографског старења, као и научна анализа међузависнос ти развитка становништва и простора на коме је оно настањено...

Specifics of the demographic development of Eastern Serbia ari se from the uniqueness of the depopulation process that began in the second half of the 19th century, and are the result of historical events, authentic cultural and historical heritage and mentality of the population that inhabits it. Today distribution a nd ethnic structure of Eastern Serbia are the result of strong effects of the migratory movements in the past, as well as immigrations of new ethnic groups, that in the process of adaptation and assimilation with indigenous population, were gave the new an thropological and socio - cultural features of this part of Serbia. The Eastern Serbia steadily losing population power more than a century. The causes of the depopulation in Eastern Serbia are not simple and uniform, ranging over a wide range, between speci fic demographic development on the one hand, and the factors, the intensity and directions of socio - historical and socio - economic development on the other hand, as well as their interdependencies and relationships. Unfavourable demographics in Eastern Serb ia have a prehistory and began to appear, before they were recognized as a demographic problem. Some of the causes date back into the past, so it is necessary and scientifically justifiable long term observation, to the extent that we are allowed by the da ta sources . Therefore, the aim of this paper is to determine and scientific explain ethno - demographic characteristics and specific of demographic development of Eastern Serbia. In this context, the main objectives of the study were: review of historical he ritage and contemporary problems of demographic development, scientific analysis of demographic and non - demographic impact on demographic trends and the establishment of demographic transition, temporal and the spatial determination of phenomena and conseq uences of biological depopulation, the establishment phases and the consequences of demographic aging, and scientific analysis of the interdependence of population development and the area that inhabits it...
