Ovo istraživanje posvećeno je doprinosu srpskog nadrealizma poetici eseja, tačnije specifičnom susretu avangardne poetike i nadrealističke esejistike. Glavni predmet istraživanja predstavlja esejistički opus trojice srpskih nadrealista, Marka Ristića, Dušana Matića i Oskara Daviča. U radu se najpre ocrtavaju teorija i istorija eseja kao žanra, da bi se potom ukazalo na strukturne analogije između žanrovskih osobina eseja i poetičkih odlika avangarde. U evropskom sistemu žanrova esej je, od samih početaka, zauzimao promenljivo, dinamično i specifično ne-mesto, pozicioniran između ili na pragu književnosti, filozofije i nauke. Avangarda je, pak, označila temeljnu kritiku građanske „institucije umetnosti“. Struktura eseja i poetika avangardnih dela počivaju na nelinearnosti, asocijativnosti, performativnosti iskaza i teatralizaciji iskustva. U oba slučaja, revalorizuju se amaterizam i laicizam nauštrb specijalizacije i parcijalizacije, čime se teži integraciji života i umetnosti, tj. življenja i pisanja. U centralnom delu rada se, u svetlu uvodnih razmatranja, izvodi tumačenje esejistike Marka Ristića, Dušana Matića i Oskara Daviča. Pritom se ukazuje na poetička preinačenja i različite funkcije koje ovaj žanr poprima u svakom od ova tri esejistička opusa ponaosob. Eseji su, za svu trojicu, predstavljali važno žanrovsko poprište za uvođenje i razjašnjavanje inovacija u polje književnosti, za polemiku s neistomišljenicima, ali i za stvaranje vlastitih složenih autofikcionalnih tvorevina. Na osnovu istraživanja žanrovskih karakteristika eseja, avangardne poetike i nadrealističke esejistike Marka Ristića, Dušana Matića i Oskara Daviča osmišljen je pojam jugoslovenske esejističke kulture, koji predstavlja sintetički, avangardni i utopijski izvod kulture jugoslovenskog modernizma.

This research is dedicated to the contribution of Serbian surrealism to the poetics of essay, more precisely to the specific encounter between avant-garde poetics and surrealist essay writing. The main subject of research is the essays of three Serbian surrealists, Marko Ristić, Dušan Matić, and Oskar Davičo. The paper first outlines the theory and history of the essay as a genre, and then points out the structural analogies between the generic characteristics of the essay and the poetic characteristics of the avant-garde. In the European system of genres, the essay, from the very beginning, occupied a changing, dynamic, and specific non-place, positioned between or on the threshold of literature, philosophy, and science. Avant-garde, on the other hand, marked a fundamental critique of the civic “institution of art”. The structure of essays and the poetics of avant-garde works are based on non-linearity, associativeness, performativity of statements, and theatricalization of experience. In both cases, amateurism and laicism are revalued at the expense of specialization and partialization, which strives for the integration of life and art, i.e. of living and writing. In the central part of the work, in light of the introductory considerations, the interpretation of the essays of Marko Ristić, Dušan Matić, and Oskar Davičo is carried out. At the same time, the poetic transformations and different functions that this genre takes on in each of these three essayistic works individually are highlighted. For all three of them, the essay represented an important genre ground for the introduction and clarification of innovations in the field of literature, for polemics with dissenters, but also for the creation of their own complex autofictional creations. Based on the research of genre characteristics of essays, avant-garde poetics, and surrealist essay writing by Marko Ristic, Dušan Matić, and Oskar Davičo, the concept of Yugoslav essay culture was created, which represents a synthetic, avant-garde, and utopian derivative of the culture of Yugoslav modernism.
