In these times, when scientific research that has an applied aspect is especially valued, socialsciences and humanities are faced with a great challenge to maintain their traditional importance andcontribution to the general development of society. Just like other social or scientific activities,librarianship underwent profound changes under the influence of the technical and technologicalrevolution and ultimately was transformed into Library and Information science, which is a sort ofcombination of humanistic values and achievements in the fields of information and communicationtechnology and automation. On the other hand, historical science faces doubts regarding its adequatecontribution to the understanding of contemporary social trends and phenomena, especially when itcomes to the interaction of man and technology. The research titled Special industrial libraries in thescientific research and innovation system of the Republic of Serbia during the period of socialism andtransition enables the epistemological connection of social and applied sciences in a way that provides avisible contribution and application of the achieved results.Special libraries are a special type of libraries that are not independent institutions, but dependentorganizational units within the associations, institutions or organizations that founded them.Multidisciplinary research of special libraries operating in the industrial sector of the Republic of Serbiawas conducted by connecting library and information science, historical science, the field of scientificand technological development, industrial and operations management.The complementarity of social, humanistic, technical and technological aspects of research in thiswork was achieved through joining, namely, combining different research concepts and methods, whichled to the inclusion and insight into the development of special industrial libraries in the Republic ofSerbia. This methodological synthesis also forms a unique research framework that enabled overcomingthe barriers inherent in the research carried out within separate scientific areas/disciplines. As such, itenabled a more complete insight into the development of libraries that functioned within industrialenterprises, which is one of the basic ideas and tasks of this research. Several research methods wereused in this paper, such as statistical method, content analysis method, case study method, historical andcomparative method.The theoretical framework of the research is based on a systemic approach whereby specialindustrial libraries are studied as part of the economic, industrial, library, information and nationalinnovation system. The most important systemic factors that influenced the work of special industriallibraries were identified, as well as the relations they established with the environment.According to the set objectives of the research, the influence of the political system of the SFRYon the development of science and technology was determined, with particular reference to specialindustrial libraries. In order to achieve the most general and scientifically relevant results, the researchwas expanded by analyzing data on the work of special industrial libraries in the library and informationsystem of the Federal Republic of Germany. Through the comparison of case studies and the specificsof the library and information system in the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Serbia,insights were gained about the organizational advantages and disadvantages of the system in whichspecial industrial libraries performed their information function. With a better understanding of theworking methods of special industrial libraries, the peculiarities of the two national strategies of scientificand technological development were highlighted.In accordance with the set goals and tasks of the research, the most important factors thatinfluenced the work of special libraries in the industry of the Republic of Serbia were determined. Thepresented research results provide an insight into the problems and stages of the development of this typeof library, thus providing guidelines for their further research. Multidisciplinary linking of social andhumanistic together with technical and technological aspects, concepts and research methods proved tobe an inevitable and expedient approach to a more complete overview of the history and functions ofspecial industrial libraries, that is, development of information management in the industry of theRepublic of Serbia.The results of multidisciplinary research of special industrial libraries represent a contribution tobetter understanding and solving complex social issues, especially when it comes to the increasinglypresent interaction of society and technology, as well as the challenges of their synthesis.

У данашње време, када се посебно вреднују научна истраживања која имају примењениаспект, друштвено-хуманистичке науке се налазе пред великим изазовом да задржетрадиционални значај и допринос општем развоју друштва. Као и остале друштвене или научнеделатности, библиотекарство је под утицајем техничко-технолошке револуције доживело дубокепромене и трансформисало се у библиотечко-информациону науку, која представљакарактеристичан спој хуманистичких вредности и достигнућа информационо-комуникационетехнологије и аутоматизације. Са друге стране, историјскa наукa се суочава са сумњама у вези саадекватним доприносом разумевању савремених друштвених токова и феномена, посебно када јеу питању интеракција човека и технологије. Истраживање на тему „Специјалне индустријскебиблиотеке у научно-истраживачком и иновационом систему Републике Србије у периодусоцијализма и транзиције” омогућава епистемолошко повезивање друштвених и примењенихнаука на начин који пружа видљив допринос и примену постигнутих резултата.Специјалне библиотеке представљају посебан тип библиотека које нису самосталнеустанове, већ зависне организационе јединице у оквиру удружења, установа или организацијакоје су их основале. Мултидисциплинарно истраживање специјалних библиотека које послују уиндустријском сектору Републике Србије извршено је повезивањем библиотечко-информационенауке, историјске науке, поља научно-технолошког развоја, индустријског и оперативногменаџмента.Комплементарност друштвено-хуманистичких и техничко-технолошких аспекатаистраживања у овом раду је постигнута кроз спрегу, односно комбиновање различитих концепатаи метода истраживања, што је довело до обухвата и увида у развој специјалних индустријскихбиблиотека у Републици Србији. Та методолошка синтеза уједно чини и јединствениистраживачки оквир који је омогућио да се превазиђу баријере својствене истраживањимареализованим у оквиру засебних научних области/дисциплина. Као таква, она је омогућилацеловитији увид у развој библиотека које су функционисале у оквиру индустријских предузећа,што представља и једну од основних замисли и задатака овог истраживања. Међу методамаистраживања коришћеним у овом раду, између осталих се налазе статистичка метода, методанализе садржаја, метод студије случаја, историјски и компаративни метод.Теоријски оквир истраживања је заснован на системском приступу чиме су специјалнеиндустријске библиотеке проучаване као део привредно-индустријског, библиотечко-информационог и националног иновационог система. Идентификовани су најважнији системскичиниоци који су утицали на рад специјалних индустријских библиотека, као и релације које суоне успостављале са окружењем.Према постављеним циљевима истраживања, утврђен је утицај политичког система СФРЈна развој науке и технологије, са посебним освртом на специјалне индустријске библиотеке. Унамери да се постигну што општији и научно релевантнији резултати, истраживање је проширеноанализом података о раду специјалних индустријских библиотека у библиотечко-информациономсистему Савезне Републике Немачке. Кроз компарацију студија случаја и специфичностибиблиотечко-информационог система у Савезној Републици Немачкој и Републици Србији,остварени су увиди о организационим предностима и недостацима система у којима су специјалнеиндустријске библиотеке оствариле своју информациону функцију. Бољим разумевањем начинарада специјалних индустријских библиотека истакнуте су особености две националне стратегијенаучно-технолошког развоја.У складу са постављеним циљевима и задацима истраживања утврђени су најважнијичиниоци који су утицали на рад специјалних библиотека у индустрији Републике Србије.Предочени резултати истраживања дају увид у проблеме и етапе развоја овог типа библиотека,чиме су пружене и смернице за њихово даље истраживање. Мултидисциплинарно повезивањедруштвено-хуманистичких и техничко-технолошких аспеката, концепата и метода истраживањапоказало се као неизбежан и сврсисходан приступ целовитијем сагледавању историјата ифункција специјалних индустријских библиотека, тј. развоја информационог менаџмента уиндустрији Републике Србије.Резултати мултидисциплинарног истраживања специјалних индустријских библиотекапредстављају прилог бољем разумевању и решавању комплексних друштвених питања –нарочито када је реч о све присутнијој интеракцији друштва и технологије, као и изазовимањихове синтезе.
