This paper explores Serbian epic poems of the “oldest” times recorded in the territory ofBosnia and Herzegovina between the 1860s and the First World War and sent to the Serbian RoyalAcademy for its ethnographic collection. The aim of the paper is a comprehensive observation ofthis material, from the aspect of literary history and cultural history, as well as from the viewpointof the epic poem poetics. The borders of this corpus are examined and its place within the contextof the Ethnographic collection stored in the SASA Archives, as well as the institutional policy thathad led to the creation of this collection. The focus of the analysis are the theoretic, methodologicaland ideational principles on which the Ethnographic collection is based along side their impact onthe conception of the investigated corpus. These collections are also viewed in broader cultural andhistorical contexts with the aim of establishing their position in relation to their contemporarycollections and the collecting missions in the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Although thefocus is on the collecting activities conducted under the Serbian national name, the collectingprojects of that period in this territory with different ideational and national labels are notdisregarded either. Since striving for the national and cultural emancipation of the Serbian people inBosnia and Herzegovina marked the time when the corpus was formed, the role that the collectingactivity and the marking of folk wisdom with the Serbian national name had in these processes isalso reflected upon. In addition to the poems themselves, another type of archival material (papersregarding the Academy’s work, correspondence) is also analyzed in order to gain insight into thedata on the context of recording, the collectors’ methodological principles, and their approach tofolklore. The analytical thread moves from the context toward the text, and the second part of thepaper deals with the interpretation of the thematic and poetic characteristics of the material. Theextensive material is systematized according to chronological and thematic principles, its ideationaland structural characteristics are indicated, as well as the processes of varying stable formulativepatterns and new stylistic procedures. What is reflected upon is not only the position of this materialwithin the diachronic trajectory of Serbian epic poetry but also the relation between tradition andinnovation.

Српске епске песме „најстаријих“ времена бележене на простору Босне иХерцеговине од шездесетих година деветнаестог века до Првог светског рата и послатеСрпској краљевској академији за њену Етнографску збирку предмет су истраживања у овомраду. Тежи се свестраном сагледавању ове грађе, како с аспекта историје књижевности икултурне историје, тако и са становишта поетике епске песме. Испитују се границе овогкорпуса и његово место у контексту Етнографске збирке похрањене у Архиву САНУ, као иинституционална политика која је довела до формирања ове збирке. Анализирају сетеоријско-методолошка и идејна начела на којима почива Етнографска збирка и испитујекако су она утицала на концепцију збирки истраживачког корпуса. Ове збирке посматрају сеи у ширем културноисторијском контексту, тежи се њиховом позиционирању у односу насувремене им сакупљачке подухвате на простору Босне и Херцеговине. Иако је фокус насакупљачким активностима које се одвијају под српским националним именом, не губе се извида ни оновремени сакупљачки подухвати на овом простору с друкчијим идејним инационалним ознакама. Будући да је време формирања овог корпуса обележено тежњама канационалној и културној еманципацији српског народа у Босни и Херцеговини, промишља сеи о улози коју су сакупљачки рад и означавање умотворина српским националним именомимали у овим процесима. Поред самих песама, анализира се и архивска грађа другог типа(хартије о раду Академије, преписка) како би се стекао увид у податке о контекстузаписивања, методолошким начелима скупљача и њихом односу према фолклору.Аналитичка нит иде од контекста ка тексту, па се у другом делу рада приступа тумачењусижејно-тематских и поетичких одлика грађе. Обимна грађа систематизује се премахронолошко-тематском принципу, указује се на њене идејне и структурне одлике, поступкеварирања стабилних формулативних образаца, као и на нове стилске поступке. Промишља сео месту ове грађе у дијахронијском луку српске епике, односу традиције и иновације.
