When discussing Uroš Milanković, he is usually either placed, from the literary-historical aspect, into the Age of Enlightenment; or, from the philosophical standpoint, into Romanticism, i.e. more specifically, into Naturphilosophie. Even though the influences from the aforementioned intellectual movements represent integral elements in the work of this philosopher, categorising it into currents of thought is not, perhaps, the most appropriate way of understanding Milanković’s academic scope. Furthermore, in his case, this classification may be perceived as counterproductive when understanding the essence of his work. Therefore, this thesis aims to critically observe Milanković’s contribution to science from a historical and literary standpoint of combining the most important elements from different movements.The thesis framework is based on Milanković’s system – a rationale constructed out of theoretically valid components. Thus, to analyse and grasp the importance of his work, the research methodology included an interdisciplinary approach i.e. the analysis of Milanković’s writings, biography, sets of basic concepts of the system’s constructs, as well as the influence that the system both impacted and produced. This is done in order to adequately assess the amount of Milanković’s originality within his philosophical and scientific work. The central idea of the thesis focuses on the emphasis of natural philosophy as the first properly established and developed system within the history of Serbian philosophy. For that reason, this thesis proposes three main hypotheses – that Milanković developed a teaching that subsequently produced a constructive criticism of Newtonian physics; that his teachings were a continuation of Ruđer Bošković’s work; and, also, that his teachings had a formative function in understanding philosophy and science in the culture of Serbia.The results of the study confirm the initial hypotheses. Furthermore, the findings and conclusions from this thesis fill the academic void in understanding Milanković as a theoretician of science and are, as such, a valid base for future assessments of his (natural) philosophy.

У књижевно-историјском контексту Уроша Миланковића се обично смешта у просветитељство, а у филозофској класификацији у романтизам или, одређеније, натурфилозофију. Иако су утицаји из наведених праваца интегрални елементи дела овог филозофа, сврставање у струје мишљења није најприкладнији начин за разумевање обухвата нечијег стваралаштва, па и у датом случају готово да више одмаже но што упућује на суштину. Циљ овог рада управо јесте отварање нове перспективе Миланковићевог промишљања која би укључила пресудне моменте из сфера филозофије и историје науке.Средиште његовог остварења чини Миланковићев систем – мисаона грађевина сачињена од компоненти које су с теоретичарскe позиције саме по себи значајне. Да би се на значајност указало у истраживању се настојало мултидисциплинарним приступом (који је подразумевао анализу Миланковићевих списа, животног пута, сплета основних појмова његовог системског конструкта те утицаја који су га обликовали и које је сам произвео) увидети колико код Миланковића има оригиналности у одређењу улога филозофског и научног. При томе је кључна идеја била скретање пажње на аспект ове природнофилозофске теорије као првог истински разрађеног система у историјату српске филозофије. У том духу, на почетку истраживања постављене претпоставке су сведене на три главне одреднице – да је Миланковић развио учење које је изнедрило конструктивну критику њутновске физике, континуитетски се њиме наставио на остварење Руђера Бошковића те да је оно имало формативног одјека на схватања филозофије и науке у каснијој српској култури.Кроз достигнуте резултате претпоставке су се махом показале оправданима, а крајњи закључци oстварени дисертацијом попуњавају празнине у склопу доживљаја Миланковића као теоретичара науке и у том смислу релевантно су полазиште за будућа оцењивања његове (природне) филозофије.
