Сажетак: Циљ овог рада је да истражи и опише како се феномен смр- ти обликује у српском патриотском песништву на примеру стихова из Антологије српске родољубиве поезије, коју су приредили Вук Ми- латовић, Владимир Цветановић и Александар Јовановић. Посебно ће бити сагледани: 1) именовање смрти, 2) одабир начина и узрока смрти, 3) представа гроба и сахране, 4) прикази мртвог тела, 5) пред- става бесмртности. Анализа показује: 1) да у патриотском песништву мотив смрти заузима значајно место, 2) да у родољубивим песмама доминира насилна смрт, 3) да се гроб види као место туге, али и за- вета и препорода, 4) да су у родољубивом песништву чести сурови прикази умрлог тела, 5) да је присутно отворено неприхватање не- функционалности мртвог и коначности смрти, као и то да се трајање после смрти доминантно остварује у симболичком виду, кроз сећање потомака. Приликом језичког обликовања мотива смрти ретко се ко- ристи персонификација – чешће су присутне метафоре смрти и хи- перболичне фразе које указују на размере и страхоте страдања.

Summary The aim of this paper is to investigate and describe how the phenomenon of death is shaped in Serbian patriotic poetry using the example of verses from the Antologija srpske rodoljubive poezije (Anthology of Serbian Patriotic Poetry), edited by Vuk Milatović, Vladimir Cvetanović, and Aleksandar Jovanović. In particular, the following will be considered: 1) naming death, 2) choosing the manner and cause of death, 3) representation of the grave and burial, 4) representations of the dead body, 5) representation of immortality. The analysis shows: 1) that in patriotic poetry the motif of death occupies an important place, 2) that violent death dominates in patriotic songs, 3) that the grave is seen as a place of sadness, but also as place of vows and rebirth, 4) in patriotic poetry there are often cruel representations of the dead body, 5) there is an open non-acceptance of the dysfunctionality of the dead and the finality of death, as well as the fact that the continuance after death is dominantly realized in a symbolic form, through the memory of descendants. Personification is rarely used in the linguistic shaping of the motif of death - metaphors of death and hyperbolic phrases that indicate the extent and horrors of suffering are more often present.
