Narativni identitet(i) teksta MMORPG video-igara
Summary The aim of this paper is to analyse narrative strategies used in MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role-playing games). The presented classification positions narrative practices of these multiplayer game worlds in relation to the concept of story, narrative and the storyworld, as well as to the strategies used in other media and arts (literature, film) – also applied in games designed for a single user – presenting practices that are common but also those that are specific to MMORPGs. The paper elaborates specific categories of narratives that appear in these games, as well as specific application of the storyworld concept. It analyses the function of space in the context of narratives in these worlds, and avatar positions as a part of the narrative discourse. Finally, special attention is paid to the practice of machinimas created in these games, or on the basis of the graphic and narrative content taken from MMORPGs, as a representative new media narrative form that reflects wide availability and applicability of the media through amateur (DIY), as well as professional practices of creative work in video content producing.
