Abstract: The aim of this paper is to examine the issue regarding the discrepancy between political and critical art in Rancière's theory, with the emphasis on the concept of ought-to-be / demand for human emancipation. Rancière confronts the conception of critical and political art in favor of its politicality – dissensus – since critical art, as Rancière argues, ends up being the instrument of the traditional Enlightenment program and emancipation.
