Abstract: Starting with the Global Financial Crisis of 2008-09, globalization has been slowing down (‘slow-globalization’), with more and more signs of de-globalization. The share of world merchandise exports in global GDP- a good indicator of globalization - has returned to where it was in 2000, far below the level of 2008. At the same time, the relative importance of China in the world economy has been further strengthened in the last 15 years, which is a process that can be associated with intensive attempts to internationalize the yuan, primarily in trade and finance. Although it is difficult for the yuan to become one of the world’s leading currencies if capital controls are not lifted and the exchange rate does not become more flexible, the difficult position of the dollar due to its “weaponization” from February 2022, coupled with Western sanctions against Russia due to the war in Ukraine, is improving the relative status of the Chinese currency

Apstrakt: Počevši od Globalne finansijske krize 2008-09, globalizacija usporava (‘slow-globalisation’), sa sve više znakova deglobalizacije. Udeo svetskog robnog izvoza u globalnom BDP-u, dobar indikator globalizacije, se vratio gde je bio 2000, daleko ispod nivoa 2008. Istovremeno, relativni značaj Kine u svetskoj privredi dodatno je ojačan u poslednjih 15 godina, s čim su povezani i intenzivni pokušaji internacionalizacije juana, pre svega, u trgovini i finansijama. Iako je teško da juan postane jedna od vodećih svetska valuta ako se kontrola kapitala ne ukine i kurs ne postane fleksibilniji, otežana pozicija dolara i usled njegovog ‘’naoružavanja’’ od februara 2022, povezana sa zapadnim sankcionisanjem Rusije zbog rata u Ukrajini, poboljšava relativni status kineske valute.
