Abstract: In the monasteries of medieval Serbia there are not many material remains which offer a soundbasis for reconstructing the appearance of monastery kitchens. In the course of their existence, some monastery complexes were subjected to reconstruction, while others still need all systematic archeological investigation. Still, taking into consideration all avail-able data, we are able to determine the basic features regarding the location, contents and shape of mon-astery kitchens, all the more so because the existing structures from the 16th and 17th century indicate that the medieval tradition of construction and furnishing of these edifices survived for a long time.
