Тема ове докторске дисертације спада у оквире критичке социолингвистике која изучава однос језика и друштва у најширем смислу те речи. Конкретно, истраживање се бави међузависним односом језика и рода онако како се он ствара под утицајем медијских садржаја и манифестује код деце од најранијег развојног доба до адолесцентског узраста.Циљ рада је да испита утицај аудио-визуелног дискурса намењеног деци на развој родних идентитета деце. Прва хипотеза истраживања се односи на то да медијски садржаји намењени деци представљају аудио-визуелни дискурс који обилује родним стереотипима и то тако да су они израженији у садржајима намењеним старијим развојним добима деце у односу на млађу. Друга хипотеза претпоставља да дискурс деце одражава владајуће родне иделеогије у друштву те да ће родни стереотипи кроз језик бити јасније изражени у дискурсу деце средњег и адолесцентског у односу на дискурс деце млађег развојног доба.С обзиром на интердисциплинарну природу теме и вишеструке циљеве, емпиријски део истраживања је састављен из два дела. Први део се односи на анализу медијских садржаја намењених деци у сврху идентификације најчешће представљаних родних стереотипа применом методолошког приступа мултимодалне семиотичке анализе. Други део емпиријског истраживања се односи на истраживање методом фокус група чији је циљ дискусија претходно анализираних садржаја као и критичка анализа дискурса самих разговора на састанцима група.Резултати целокупног истраживања потврђују како прву тако и другу хипотезу дисертације. Родни стереотипи су бројнији и израженији у оквиру аудио-визуелног дискурса намењеног старијим развојним добима деце а њихов утицај се манифестује у дискурсу деце.Закључак рада даје критички осврт на добијене резултате и коментарише их у контексту савремених интердисциплинарних истраживања. Коначно, имплицира се могућност даљих истраживања у овој као и у другим сродним интердисциплинарним областима.

Broadly speaking, the topic of this thesis is a subject of sociolinguistics as it deals with the relationship of language and society in general. More precisely, the thesis is based on researching the interrelation of language and gender as being created under the influence of media and manifested with children up to the age of adolescence.The aim of the thesis is to investigate the influence of audio-visual discourse aimed at children on the construction of gender identities in children. The first hypothesis states that child media discourse is audio-visual discourse abundant in gender stereotypes in such way that these stereotypes are more obvious and pertinent in discourse aimed at older developmental age as compared to the one aimed at younger developmental age. The second hypothesis states that child discourse will reflect the rulling gender ideologies thus resulting in gender stereotypes to be more obvious in the discourses of older and middle developmental ages of children as compared to the younger one.Given the fact that the thesis is both interdisciplinary in its topic and having multiple aims, the empirical research is created in multiple tiers as well. The first tier deals with the analysis of media discourse aimed at children with the aim of identifying the represented gender stereotypes. This part of the research uses the methodology of multimodal semiotic analysis. The second tier deals with the focus group discussion of the previously analysied discourses followed by the critical discourse analysis of the focus group interviews.The overall research results confirm both the first and the second thesis hypotheses. Gender stereotypes are more obvious and pertinent in audio-visual discourse aimed at older developmental age of children as compared to the younger one. Additionally, these stereotypes reflect on the respective child discourses.The thesis conclusion gives a critical account of the research results and positions them within the broader context of contemporary interdisciplinary research. Finally, the concluding remarks imply further research both in critical sociolinguistics and the related interdisciplinary fields.
