Online encyclopedias Wikipedia and Everipedia as technological innovations and their application in the educational process
Abstract: With the increasing need for information, networks like Wikipedia have become necessary to gather knowledge. This thesis is about how those problems could be solved with the use of new technologies and what are the main differences between Wikipedia and Everipedia. Everipedia is the first online encyclopedia that stores information using blockchain. The main idea was to make a decentralized network for information sharing. Every approved article on this platform will get an “IQ” token to motivate editors. With the expansion of the network, the value of IQ should rise. After voting, if the overall score is positive, the author will be rewarded with a certain amount of IQ. Wikipedia is the most extensive online encyclopedia that internet users can freely edit. It is a multilingual project in about 300 languages with over 6 million articles in English. To ensure information relativity, every article editor has to give references. Research hasshown that Wikipedia has excellent use in education. Many students said that writing articles for Wikipedia is a lot more interesting than writing regular seminar papers. This paper will show the technical features, advantages, and disadvantages of the technologies on which Wikipedia and Everipedia are based. Special attention will be given to how those technologies could be linked to the educational process.
