Abstract: In writing from the book „Signs by the roadside”, which was our corpus, Andric did not overtly glorify any foreign country (except from certain parts of ours, which brings into question the relation between geography and fictive perception). Based on numerous researches on relation Andric – Yugoslavia, we believe that this country represented the non-existent homeland towards which he gravitated, disappointed and aware of its existential plane and, therefore, unhappy. We noticed that Andric had been very critical when talking about our man/people. There was a certain amount of bitterness, but also an attempt to understand and justify the flaws by the history of disease/disease of history. However, the awareness of dislocations that exist throughout the time vertical past – present – future is noticeable. In addition, we realized that the term „our” contains certain specifics and is not equated with Yugoslavism, which we perhaps initially expected. Furthermore, Andric latently favored the East, or the oriental as opposed to West/Central Europe, even when he started the writing with an ode of a kind to some civilization achievements. It appears that Andric associates the term „our” with the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and perhaps Serbia, or wider Balkans all the way to the Orient. What the mentioned area contains is the soul, which makes it alive even when it is wild, neglected, and primitive. There is also the portrayal of how they see us. Regardless of the noticeable criticism directed towards them, we can also detect the author’s opinion that we are in a certain way responsible for the misunderstanding because our identity contains something that causes it for centuries. As advice, Andric establishes a thesis about the change of our so that the relation we – they alters in the future.

Сажетак: У раду се бавимо анализом значења одреднице „наш” у Андрићевој прози Знакови поред пута. Реч је о синтагмама „наш народ”, „наша земља”, „наши крајеви”. Аутор у за- висности од контекста шири, односно сужава поменуту одредницу, некада чак и у оквиру истог сегмента. Циљ нам је био да у оквирима задате грађе утврдимо варијације у формира- ним аутосликама. Показали смо да одредница „наш” мења своје значењске оквире од ужег – „босанско”/„југословенско” до ширег – „балканско”, па, можда, чак и „европско”.
