THE MYTHICAL AND THE ALCHEMIC IN WOLF’S SALT - BOOK OF VERSE BY VASKO POPA

Abstract: Slavic/Serbian myth is the dominant element of subtext in the book Wolf’s Salt, although in certain segments, the book also corresponds with alchemy as part of the world/European tradition. In this book of verse, the layer of mythical is indeed based on the Cajkanovic’s reconstruction of Serbian pantheon, but there is a deflection from it, as well. In Popa’s creation of the supreme god / the lame wolf, we recognize arrange of Cajkanovic’s leads connected to Dabog (Givegod), but on the grounds of numerous motifs we can claim that the poet grants the summit of the pantheon to Perun – the God of Thunder. The foundation in the old religion is easily recognized in the poems with motifs connected with the devil, as well as with the wolf shepherd, both of them appearing in the context of the old supreme god. The presence of a female deity, to match to the supreme god, has two incarnations – the blazing she-wolf and the blaze land. From the relationship of the supreme deities the members of the wolf tribe are born, and they are led by the wolf bastard, the character which is also uniquely founded /woven/ in the mythical layer of belief. It is important to point out the motifs with the solar cult and the golden attributes. It is true that these motifs fit in the mythical context, but they also represent a connection/linc with those we recognized as alchemy. The very ideas and reletions of the she-wolf and the wolf can be observed as the male and female principles in an alchemic wedding. Also, in the range of motifs connected to colours, symbols, doings, it is easy to recognize a certain degree of very alchemic process, as well as the results of a regular or irregular Grand Deed (Veledelo) performed. It is their belonging to the archaic way of thinking that creates a connection between these two traditions, as well as the basic concept of reaching spirituality and achieving it, as the imerativ of human existence.
Сажетак: Рад се бави анализом митских и алхемијских елемената у књизи песама Вучја со Васка Попе. Митски подтекст је доминантан у овој књизи, али се запажа и низ мотива везаних за алхемијску традицију, те њихово преплитање. Оно што спаја све ове елементе јесте то што припадају архајском начину мишљења. Сматрамо да је главна улога ових двају подтекста у овој књизи Васка Попе истицање могућности досезања духовности, утемељене дубоко у традицији, од њених прапочетака, јер једино се тако може постићи опстанак сопственог идентитета.

Када говоримо о књизи песама Вучја со неоспорно је то да су словенски односно српски мит доминантни елементи подтекста. Ипак, ова књига није везана само за традицију овог подтекстуалног простора, већ кореспондира и са једним делом светске, односно европске традиције – тачније са алхемијом1. Овом приликом покушаћемо да истакнемо неке од важнијих слојева митског у књизи, али и да покажемо и докажемо постојање и овог другог. Књига којом се бавимо сачињена је од седам циклуса: Поклоњење хромоме вуку, Огњена вучица, Молитва вучјем пастиру, Вучја земља, Похвала вучјем пастиру. Трагови хромога вука и Вучје копиле. Могли бисмо је одредити као својеврстан еп. Окарактерисана је и као књига која је епско зарањање у племенско и расно између паганског и ранохришћанског цивилизацијског оквира (Капиџић-Османагић 1990: 6-7).
