Abstract: Romania, a kind of border area of c ivilized Europe, is often presented in the works of foreign and domestic authors as a meeting place of the barbaric Orient and the familiar Occident. The paper analyzes images of Romania and its capital Bucharest (bourgeois repositories and inhabitants), in the works of foreign travel writers such as Maud Parkinson and Olivia Manning. The sense of superiority of foreign travel writers in meeting this city and country, an exotic combination of East and West on the margins of Europe, often led them to project stereotypical images of the other into their texts. The paper also analyzes the texts of Serbian writers (Veljko Petrović, Andrić, Drainac, Dučić, and Vinaver), who stayed in Bucharest / Romania on various occasions, and created, following the chosen genre and historical framework, images of life in Romanian cities. Our goal is to examine how the mentioned images were created, how they are similar/different from each other, and to determine how much the experience/presentation depended on historical, i.e. geopolitical frameworks

Sažetak: t: Rumunija, svojevrsno granično područje civilizovane Evrope, neretko je u delima stranih i domaćih autora predstavljana kao zona susreta varvarskog Orijenta i poznatog Okcidenta. Rad analizira slike Rumunije i njenog glavnog grada Bukurešta (buržoaske repozitorijume i stanovnike) u delima stranih putopisaca kao što su Mod Parkinson i Olivija Mening. Osećaj superiornosti stranih putopisaca pri susretu sa ovim gradom i zemljom, egzotičnim spojem Istoka i Zapada na margini Evrope, često je dovodio do toga da u svoje tekstove projektuju stereotipne slike o drugom. U radu smo analizirali i tekstove srpskih književnika (Veljka Petrovića, Andrića, Drainca, Dučića i Vinavera), koji su različitim povodima boravili u Bukureštu/Rumuniji, te kreirali, u skladu sa odabranim žanrom, kao i istorijskim okvirom, slike života u rumunskim gradovima. Cilj nam je da ispitamo na koji su način kreirane pomenute slike, po čemu su međusobno slične/različite, te da utvrdimo koliko je doživljaj/prikaz zavisio od istorijskih, odnosno geopolitičkih okvira.
