Opis (srp)

U središtu istraživanja, kako i stoji u samom naslovu teze, nalazi se postmoderna popularna kultura i njeni elementi u okviru odabranih romana eminentnog britanskog autora, Ijana Makjuana, i to konkretno Suboti, Solaru i Orahovoj ljusci.

Opis (eng)

In the very core of this research, as it is stated in the title of the dissertation, one can find postmodern popular culture and its elements within the chosen novels of a renowned British author Ian McEwan – to be more precise, within Saturday, Solar and Nutshell. Popular culture is taken as the basis due to the fact that people have everyday contact with it, and because it simultaneously represents an active process of creating and disseminating meaning and pleasure in a certain social system. Blend with postmodernism has been chosen because it has enabled the re-appearance of important social issues on the intellectual agenda.Within the current fragmented landscape of postmodern epoch, where the system of capitalist production has already been established, the attention has now been shifted towards the consumption itself, thus making postmodern popular culture – which celebrates consumerism, hedonism and style – come to the forefront and, that way, become an interesting field for research. The two complex terms have been joined with the aim to analyse present-day culture and society in the best possible way, shown in the selected works of Ian McEwan, so as to get an insight into the extent to which it can be said that McEwan represents the best chronicler of his time. So as to analyse the novels in a proper manner, then show results and draw conclusions, the theoretical frame has been discussed first, followed by analyses of Saturday, Solar and Nutshell respectively, with the help of elements of popular culture. Finally, one can find a conclusion which gives a perfect end to the present research while showing that postmodern popular culture is truly appropriate for the analysis itself as it completely reveals the identities of individuals, then their interpersonal relationships, while simultaneously depicting the current state of our contemporary reality and experience on a global scale.
