In the doctoral dissertation before us, we indicate the significance of the linguistic landscape of the divided city of Kosovska Mitrovica. The basic hypothesis of the paper is: "For the last twenty years, the existing division into the northern and southern part of the once unique city of Kosovska Mitrovica has worked towards shaping a different linguistic landscape under the influence of different legal regulations on language use. The linguistic landscape influences linguistic as well as political ideologies in two parts of the city: North and South Mitrovica." The author confirmed the hypothesis by answering the following research questions: How does the linguistic landscape of North and South Mitrovica reflect the languages and language policy of the divided city?, How does the linguistic landscape reveal the linguistic identity of the divided city inhabitants? Are there any features of globalization present in the linguistic landscape of the divided city, and if so, to what extent? The quantitative research of linguistic and semiotic features of government and private language signs at selected locations was conducted. The qualitative research provided not only a clearer understanding of the prevailing attitudes toward language use and multilingualism in the divided city, but also the implementation of regulations on language usage in Kosovo and Metohija. The linguistic landscape is viewed from a synchronic and diachronic perspective, which clearly showed its dynamism. The greatest contribution to the study of the language landscape is the insight into the respect and implementation of language policy, as well as pointing out the importance of the analysis of political systems that control the language landscape. Many large world cities have already received descriptions and analyzes of their linguistic landscape, but that is still not the case with us. This dissertation is an attempt to make a contribution in that direction.

У докторској дисертацији која је пред нама указујемо на значај проблема језичког пејзажа подељеног града Косовске Митровице. Основна хипотеза рада је: „Постојећа подељеност на северни и јужни део, током последњих двадесет година, некада јединственог града Косовске Митровице деловала је у правцу обликовања различитог језичког пејзажа под утицајем примене у пракси различитих правних прописа о језичкој употреби. Језички пејзаж утиче како на језичке, тако и политичке идеологије у два дела града: Северне и Јужне Митровице.” До потврђивања ове хипотезе ауторка је дошла одговарајући на следећа истраживачка питања: На који начин језички пејзаж Северне и Јужне Митровице одражава језике и језичку политику подељеног града?, Како језички пејзаж осликава језички идентитет становника подељеног града?, Да ли је вишејезичност део идентитета подељеног града? Да ли су и у којој мери присутна обележја глобализације у језичком пејзажу подељеног града? Спроведено је квантитативно истраживање лингвистичких и семиотичких обележја државних и приватних језичких знакова на одабраним локацијама. Квалитативно истраживање пружило је јаснију слику о преовлађујућим ставовима по питању употребе језика и вишејезичности у подељеном граду, али и имплементацији прописа о употреби језика на Косову и Метохији. Језички пејзаж је сагледан из синхронијске и дијахронијске перспективе, што је јасно показало његову динамичност. Највећи допринос проучавања језичког пејзажа је увид у поштовање и имплементацију језичке политике, као и указивање на значај анализе политичких система који контролишу језички пејзаж. Бројни велики светски градови већ су добили описе и анализе свог језичког пејзажа, али то још увек није случај код нас. Ова дисертација је покушај да се пружи допринос у том правцу.
