Često čak i veoma obrazovani govornici savremenog standardnog arapskog će primeniti pravila retrakcije samoglansika iz dijalekata koji su im maternji jezik. Tako će, na primer, u arapskom čoveka iz Kaira emfatični suglasnici uticati na sve samoglasnike izmedu reči dok će neki Saudijac pokazati emfatičnost samo u samoglasnicima pored emfatičnog suglasnika. Neki govornici (najizvesnije govornici na Levantu) pokazuju izvestan stepen asimetrije u širenju samoglasničke retrakcije na levu nasuprot desnoj strani. Godina izdavanja: 1792/93.

Often, even highly proficient speakers of MSA will import the vowel-retractionrules from their native dialects. Thus, for example, in the Arabic of someone from Cairo emphatic consonants will affect every vowel between word boundaries, whereas certain Saudi speakers exhibit emphasis only on the vowels adjacent to an emphatic consonant. Certain speakers (most notably Levantine speakers) exhibit a degree of asymmetry in leftward vs. rightward spread of vowel-retraction. Year of publishing: 1792/93.
