Циљ рада је да покаже на који начин су богословствовали проповедници Цркве IV века на простору на ком се говорио сиријски језик, а чија дела су сачувана до данас. Реч је о списима Светог Јефрема Сиријског, Јакова Афраата и Књизи степена, непознатог аутора. Повод за писање дисертације је и одговор на позив о. Георгија Флоровског да се вратимо оцима, да инспирацију за данашњу мисију Цркве проналазимо у отачким списима. С обзиром на то да су ретко изучавани и коришћени сиријакофони списи Цркве, овај рад има намеру да покаже да је то пропуст и да од њих има шта да се научи. Да би одговорио на постављени задатак аутор дисертације анализира оригиналне списе поменутих аутора и систематски излаже како су ови писци схватали спасење човека, улогу Христа, Светога Духа, Цркве, личног подвига у томе и на тај начин моћи ће да се виде основе онога у шта су они веровали, како су промишљали о откривеним истинама и на који начин су их проповедали. Рад показује да три аутора која користе исти језик, живе у приближно исто време, у сличном културном амбијенту, не пишу идентично, што указује на то да не можемо уопштено говорити о њима већ да сваком аутору треба засебно прићи и истражити га. Из анализираних извора видимо да они јесу промишљали о од Бога објављеним истинама, да их нису све на исти начин разумевали и да су их проповедили на различите начине како би их њихови конкретни саговорници могли разумети. Релевантност овог истраживања се огледа у томе што доприноси бољем разумевању историје Цркве и како је вршена мисија на оним просторима који су ретко предмет богословских истраживања, а који могу да нам буду инспирација данас и да помогну у данашњој мисији.

The aim of this dissertation is to demonstrate the theological teachings of the 4th-century Church preachers in the Syriac-speaking area, and whose works have survived up to the present day. They include the works of St Ephrem the Syrian, Jacob Aphrahat and The Book of Steps, by an anonymous author. The reason for writing this dissertation lies in response to Father Georges Florovsky’s appeal to return to the Church Fathers, to find inspiration in the current mission of the Church in patristic writings. In view of the fact that the Syriac-language Church writings have been rarely studied and used, this thesis intends to show that such a state of affairs is a consequence of oversight, and that they have a lot to teach the readers. In order to carry out the set task, the author of the dissertation analyses the original writings of the above-mentioned authors and makes a systematic exposition of the ways in which these theologians conceived of man’s salvation, the role of Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Church, and of personal askesis in the process, thus opening a perspective onto the fundamentals of their belief, the ways of their reflection on the discovered truths and the manner in which they preached them. The thesis demonstrates that three authors who speak the same language, live in approximately the same time, within a similar cultural setting, do not write identically, which suggests that we cannot generalise about them, but that we should approach each author individually and research him. From the sources analysed, we can see that they did cogitate on God’s revealed truths, that they did not comprehend them in the same manner and that they preached them in different ways so that their actual contemporaries could understand them. The relevance of this research is reflected in its contribution to a better understanding of Church history and its mission in the lands which are seldom objects of theological inquiry, and which may serve as an inspiration now and help us in our current mission.
