The subject of this PhD paper is reporting on autism and people with autism, that is, the frequency and manner of reporting on these topics in the choosen printed and online media in Serbia. The main purpose of the dissertation is to determine how much is the topic of autism present in the selected print and online media in Serbia and how is it represented in that context. Regarding to that, one of the goals is to mold a model of framing of the topic of autism which will be able to contribute to the accurate and timely reporting on this topic. In order to realize the set goal, the hypotheses are highlighted and methodology of research is presented and includes the application of content analysis, critical discourse analysis and deep, semi-structured interviews. The theoretical framework is presented and it includes social constructivism theory, media framing, agenda setting, media advocacy and theory of reception. The insights in the media context in Serbia, media market and regulation are also given in this paper. The findings of the research pointed out the diference between dinamics of publishing contents about autism related to the type of the media, it is found that there was a significant presence of autism in online media compared to print media. It was pointed out on the characteristics of the reporting of autism in relation to the diffuse needs of the media. The analyse identifed different discourse strategies present in media and distinguished discursive practices in relation to the type of media and in relation to reference discursive practices that characterize similar topics. This paper pointed to the presence of media silence related to the topic of autism. A methodological framework for multidisciplinary comparative research of media reporting on minority health and socially vulnerable groups was developed during the research process. This framework implies the combination of qualitative and qualitative methods and parallel research - the first level refers to the analysis of specific media content, and the second level to the examination of the recipients.

Предмет истраживања докторског рада је извештавање референтних штампаних и онлајн медија у Србији о аутизму и особама са аутизмом, односно учесталост и начин извештавања о овим темама. Главни циљ дисертације је да оригиналним емпиријским истраживањем утврди колико је тема аутизма присутна у референтним штампаним и онлајн медијима у Србији и како је приказана у том контексту, односно који модел медијског представљања теме аутизма би допринео тачном и благовременом извештавању о овој теми. Ради реализације постављеног циља, истакнуте су хипотезе и методологија истраживања која подразумева примену анализе садржаја, критичке анализе дискурса и дубинске полуструктурисане интервјуе. Представљен је теоријски оквир који обухвата теорију социјалног конструкционизма, концепт медијског уоквиривања, теорију наметања садржаја, концепт медијског заговарања и теорију рецепције. Дат је увид у медијски контекст у Србији, прегледом медијског тржишта и регулативе која је упоређена са релевантним актима Европске уније. Резултати истраживања указали су на разлику у динамици објављивања садржаја о аутизму у односу на тип медија, те је забележено значајније присуство теме аутизма у онлајн медијима у односу на штампане медије. Указано је на карактеристике извештавања о аутизму у односу на дифузне потребе медија. Утврђене су дискурсне стратегије којима се медији служе и истакнуте дистинктивне дискурзивне праксе у односу на тип медија и у односу на референтне дискурзивне праксе које карактеришу сличне теме. Рад је указао на доминацију медијске тишине када је реч о аутизму. Током истраживачког процеса развијен је методолошки оквир за мултидисциплинарно компаративно истраживање медијског извештавања о мањинским здравствено и социјално угроженим групама. Тај оквир подразумева комбиновање квалитативних и квалитативних метода и паралелно истраживање – први ниво односи се на 6 анализу конкретних медијских садржаја, а други ниво на испитивање реципијената
