Facilities and equipment are not only an essential prerequisite for working with young people, but also an important element in creating the conditions for the implementation of educational process in physical education, as well as the development of sports in general. The facilities (gym and outdoor recreational facilities) represent the basis of school sports infrastructure. They are intended primarily for teaching physical education, but also for the needs of sports clubs and recreation of citizens. The provision of requisite and modernly equipped space is a vital precondition for fulfilling all the requirements, achieving the set goals and enabling the application of new achievements in the field of physical education. The existence of adequate school sports infrastructure in all parts of the Republic of Serbia represents the basis of sustainable development of every local government, region and society as a whole. It is also important to point out that school sports facilities are of vital importance for the local community, as they represent a significant element in the development of small territorial units. In order to fulfil all the requirements in the school curriculum and meet the demands of sports clubs and people who play sport recreationally, the attitude towards school sports infrastructure has to be based on planned development and should be in conformity with the Strategy on Education Development and the Strategy on Sports Development in the Republic of Serbia, as well as to rely on the experiences of the EU countries. The research task is focused on the analysis of the existing spatial conditions regarding the sports facilities in primary and secondary schools, as well as on their planned and conceived development. The obtained results will enable to identify the shortcomings and create new possibilities for finding practical solutions.

Као значајан фактор у стварању услова за реализацију образовно-васпитног процеса у физичком васпитању, као и за унапређење целокупног развоја спорта, простори и њихова опремљеност представљају основни предуслов за квалитетан рад са младима. Основу школске спортске инфраструктуре чине објекти (фискултурне сале и отворени спортски терени) намењени, пре свега, настави физичког васпитања и реализацији школског спорта, а затим и потребама спортских клубова и рекреацији грађана. Обезбеђивање потребног и савремено опремљеног простора, основни је предуслов да би се реализовали сви захтеви, постигли постављени циљеви и омогућила примена нових достигнућа у настави физичког васпитања. Постојање адекватне школске спортске инфраструктуре у свим деловима Републике Србије, представља основ одрживог развоја сваке локалне самоуправе, региона и друштва у целини. Важно је такође истаћи да су школски спортски објекти од виталног значаја за локалну заједницу, јер то доприноси и представља значајну карику у развоју малих средина. Да би се у потпуности реализовали сви захтеви у наставном плану и програму и одговорило захтевима спортских клубова и рекреативаца, однос према школској спортској инфраструктури мора бити заснован на планском развоју, усклађен са Стратегијом развоја образовања и Стратегијом спорта у Републици Србији и ослањајући се притом на искуства земaља Европске уније. Истраживачки задатак је усмерен на анализу постојећих просторних услова спортских објеката у основним и средњим школама, као и на њихов плански и осмишљени развој, чији би резултати допринели идентификацији недостатака и створили нове могућности за њихово решавање у пракси.
