Ceramic ethnoarchaeology is a scientific field intensively present in the world for several decades already. This doctoral thesis is aimed at researching and formulating such new perspectives and methods of the ethnoarchaeological study of ceramics that have not been applied in Serbian archaeology so far. The research questions posed in this paper are related to the technological process of ceramic production, the use of ceramic vessels and the traces that such production and use leave in the archaeological record. A fact has been established that in the technological process of ceramic manufacturing there are certain regularities limiting the number of possible variables in the operational chain, but that their combinations can be diverse and that, in the concrete cases of the researched communities in the past they are difficult to determine. The assumption that a material dictates a technique i.e. that a choice of clay and admixtures is directly connected with the manner in which a vessel will be modelled and its function has been confirmed. The questions of technological universality and technological continuity in ceramic production, the elements common to all the known technological processes of ceramic manufacturing, and possible breakpoints that have led to changes have been discussed. That the hand-wheel accounts for both the technological degree of the development of ceramic production and the technological optimum in certain cases has been confirmed. The research results suggest the assumption that the past and the present of the production and use of ceramics are interconnected by an uninterrupted thread of development, a series of events having had an influence on empirically coming to optimal solutions depending on the needs, which has ensured the continuity of knowledge and skills conveyed through time and space. This is confirmed by the current, diverse pottery practice suggesting that the knowledge and skills once having been adopted in ceramic technology have not disappeared after the discovery of new techniques and technical devices, but have rather continued to be practiced in parallel with each other.

Етноархеологија керамике је научна област која је у свету интензивно заступљена већ више деценија. Циљ ове докторске тезе је да истражи и формулише нове перспективе и методе етноархеолошког проучавања керамике какве до сада нису примењиване у српској археологији. Истраживачка питања овде постављена односе се на технолошки процес производње керамике, на употребу керамичких посуда и трагове које производња и употреба остављају у археолошком запису. Установљено је да технолошки процес израде керамике има одређене законитости које ограничавају број могућих варијабли у оперативном ланцу, али да њихове комбинације могу бити разноврсне и да их је на конкретним случајевима истраживаних заједница у прошлости тешко установити. Потврђена је претпоставка да материјал диктира технику, односно да су одабир глине и примеса у директној вези с начином на који ће посуда бити моделована и с њеном функцијом. Разматрана су питања технолошке универзалоности и технолошког континуитета у керамичкој производњи, елементи који су заједнички свим познатим технолошким процесима израде керамике и могуће преломне тачке које су довеле до промена. Потврђено је да ручно витло представља технолошки степен развитка керамичке прозводње, али и технолошки оптимум у одређеним случајевима. Резултати истраживања сугеришу претпоставку да прошлост и садашњост производње и употребе керамике повезује непрекинута нит развоја, низ догађаја који су утицали да се искуствено дође до оптималних решења у зависности од потреба, што је обезбедило континуитет знања и умећа преношених кроз време и простор. То потврђује актуелна, разнолика грнчарска пракса која сугерише да једном усвојена знања и вештине у технологији керамике нису нестајали открићем нових техника и техничких помагала, већ је настављена њихова паралелна пракса.
