The aim and subject of this dissertation is research in the field of translation, i.e.,self-translation, specifically the role of an interdisciplinary approach in the process of self-translation ofauthors of contemporary prose works in English and Serbian. In the context of this thesis, with referenceto the previous works of renowned authors, through adequate examples from selected works of selftranslatedcontemporary prose, we investigate the role of an interdisciplinary approach to the translationprocess as a tool for successfully solving translation problems.Bilingual (and multilingual) authors and writers consciously and courageously approach the process ofself-translation with the desire and intention to help all readers, speakers of Serbian and English, as wellas others, in understanding the work itself and facilitate the understanding of certain doubts arising fromcultural, semantic, traditional, historical, and other differences. Along with the indispensable factor ofself-confidence and willingness to translate what they wrote in one language as faithfully as possible intoanother language (English and Serbian), one can see the strong and significant role of the interdisciplinaryand multidisciplinary scientific field that helps them to perceive, describe, and explain the complexworld, society, reality, and issues that pervade their original work. It is precisely this combination ofskills, knowledge, abilities, and interdisciplinarity that finds the best solutions and answers to varioustranslation dilemmas. Auto-translation cannot run smoothly if the auto-translator is not aware of thedifferences that pervade the two languages. It is necessary to review the differences in the way ofexpression, dialect, tradition, customs, habits, culture, view of history, and richness of language.The goal of the dissertation is to, through an adequate understanding and analysis of the interdisciplinaryapproach to the process of self-translation of certain works of contemporary prose, analyze the path takenby self-translators when they made their authentic contribution to the general context of literarytranslation, enriching it with their self-translations, and to point out to what extent and in what way theinterdisciplinary approach represents an important tool for shaping the most successful translation.Through the analysis of works of contemporary prose that the authors translated from their mother tongueinto a foreign language, we investigate how much and whether such translators are more successful intheir work and how thorough their knowledge of the subject matter of the original work, as well as theirknowledge of language, culture, living conditions, reality, the past, and others, provide greater certaintyin a more adequate and faithful transmission of both the details and the essence of these works.Unburdened by the question, "What did the author really want to say?" whether auto-translators areprivileged in their work in a certain way, is another issue that we deal with in this dissertation. How luckythe translators themselves are when they overcome the travails of translation hand in hand with the authorand other disciplines that are of immense help to them.We start with the assertion that self-translation is certainly a good, if not the best, solution, of course,provided that the author is at least bilingual. With multilingualism on the wings of an interdisciplinaryand multidisciplinary approach, every author and self-translator can soar to the heights of translation.The initial hypothesis of this doctoral thesis could be defined as the idea that when writers themselvestranslate their works, they "interpret or transform themselves" in literary terms; they write the same workfrom scratch, but for another culture, another reality, another world. Namely, the author of the doctoralthesis believes that in this way they supplement themselves but also build on their work. And the moreoften they engage in self-translation, the more successful they are and the richer the translation world is.

Циљ и предмет ове дисертације је истраживање на пољу превођења, односноаутопревођења, конкретно, улога интердисцилпинарног приступа у процесу аутопревођењааутора савремених прозних дела на енглеском и српском језику. У контексту ове тезе, уз осврт надосадашње радове реномираних аутора, кроз адекватне примере из одабраних дела аутопреведенесавремене прозе, истражујемо улогу интердисциплинарног приступа процесу превођења, каоалатке за успешно решавање преводилачке проблематике.Двојезични (и вишејезични) аутори, писци, свесно и храбро приступају процесу аутопревођења,са жељом и намером да свим читаоцима, говорницима српског и енглеског језика, али и осталима,помогну у разумевању самог дела и олакшају разумевање одређених недоумица које произилазеиз културолошких, семантичких, традиционалних, историјских и осталих разлика. Уз неизоставанфактор самопоуздања и воље да оно што су написали на једном језику преведу што веродостојнијена други језик (енглески и српски), уочава се снажна и значајна улога интердисциплинарне имултидисциплинарне научне области која им помаже у сагледавању, описивању и објашњавањусложеног света, друштва, реалности и проблематике која прожима њихово оригинално дело.Управо та спрега умећа, знања, способности и интердисциплинарности, изналазе најквалитетнијарешења и одговоре на разнородне преводилачке дилеме. Аутопреводилаштво не може тећиправим током уколико код аутопреводиоца не постоји свест о разликама које прожимају двајезика. Неопходан је осврт на разлике у начину изражавања, дијалекту, традицији, обичајима,навикама, култури, погледу на историју, богатству језика.Циљ дисертације је да кроз адекватно разумевање и анализу интердисциплинарног приступапроцесу аутопревода одређених дела савремене прозе, анализира пут којим су се аутопреводиоцикретали када су дали свој аутентичан допринос општем контексту књижевног превођења,обогативши га својим аутопреводима; да укаже на то у којој мери и на који начининтердисциплинарни приступ представља важну алатку за обликовање што успешнијег превода.Кроз анализу дела савремене прозе која су аутори превели са матерњег на страни језик,истражујемо колико су и да ли су такви преводиоци успешнији у свом раду, колико им темељнопознавање материје изворног дела, као и познавање језика, културе, услова живота, реалности,прошлости и осталог, дају већу сигурност у адекватнијем и вернијем преношењу, како детаља,тако и суштине ових дела. Неоптерећени питањем: ,,Шта је аутор заиста желео да каже?“, да лису аутопреводиоци на одређени начин и привилеговани у свом раду, представља још једнупроблематику којом се бавимо у овој дисертацији. Колико су сами преводиоци срећници кадпреводилачке муке савладавају руку под руку са аутором и другим дисциплинама које су им однеизмерне помоћи.Полазимо од тврдње да је аутопревод свакако добро, ако не и најбоље решење, наравно, подусловом да је аутор бар двојезичан. Вишејезичност на крилима интердисциплинарног имултидисциплинарног приступа, сваког аутора, аутопреводиоца, може винути у висинепреводилаштва. Почетна хипотеза ове докторске тезе могла би се дефинисати као идеја да кадаписци сами преводе своја дела, они ,,интерпретирају или трансформишу сами себе“ у књижевномизразу, они једно исто дело пишу испочетка, али за неку другу културу, другу реалност, другисвет. Наиме, ауторка докторске тезе сматра да они тако допуњавају сами себе, али и надограђујусвоје дело. И што чешће се баве аутореводом, то су успешнији и толико је богатији преводилачкисвет.
