During his life Imam Shafi-ee also suffered from political intrigues. For instance, after studying under Imam Malik in Medina he was sent to fill an office in Yemen, where he was accused of political involvement which resulted in his arrest.He was taken as prisoner to Haroun al-Rasheed. The Khalifah however found him innocent and the Imam was honourably released.Imam Shafiee died in the Year 204 A.H./ 820 C.E. and was laid to rest in Egypt.

U životu je Imam Aš-Šadi podneo žrtvu i od politickih ingriga. Na primer, posle ucenja kod imama Malika u Medini, poslat je u Jemen na neki položaj gde je optužen za politcku aktivnost što je rezultiralo njegovim hapšenjem. Kao zarobljenik je odveden Harunuar-Rašidu. Halifa je, medutim, ustanovio da je nevin pa je imam pušten s pocastima. Imam Aš-Šafi je umro 204. godine po hidžri / 820. n.e. i sahranjen je u Egiptu.
