Arabic has three cases: according to Western classification, the nominative, the accusative and the genitive. The nominative is used to mark the noun which is the subject of a sentence. The sign of nominative is generally a final short vowel -u, although in some cases other endings must be used. There are words that are indeclinable and other exceptions that complicate the situation even more.

Arapski ima tri padeška oblika; na osnovu zapadne klasifikacije, nominativ, akuzativ i genitiv. Nominativ se koristi da označi imenicu koja je subjekat u rečenici. Oznaka nominativa je obično kratak samoglasnik -u iako u nekim slučajevima mogu se upotrebiti i neki drugi nastavci. Postoje nepromenljive reči i drugi izuzeci koji još više komplikuju stvar.
