Rasprave o odnosu izmedu logike, jezika i gramatike Al-Faravija, Ibn Sine i Al-Farabijevog učenika Jahje ibn Adija (takode sirijački hrišćanin i prevodilac) treba razumeti na osnovu pozadine napada na grčku logiku. I Al-Farabi i Jahja predstavljaju istu perspektivu na odnose izmedu logike i jezika, umerenu perspektivu koju Ibn Sina kasnije odbacuje. U delu Ihsaul-ulum (Spisak nauka) tvrdi da i logika i gramatika imaju istovetni legitimni interes u jeziku međutim, dok gramatička pravila pre svega vladaju upotrebom jezika, logička pravila prevashodno vladaju upotrebom intelektualija: "Ova veština [logika] analogna je gramatičkoj veštini u toj meri da je odnos logičke veštine prema intelektu nalik odnosu gramatičke veštine prema jeziku i izražavanju. To znači da svakom pravilu koje nam pruži gramaticka nauka postoji odgovarajuće [pravilo] za intelektualije koje nam obezbeđuje logička nauka." (Spisak nauka) Godina izdavanja: 1827.
It is against the background of attacks on Greek logic that the discussions ofthe relations between logic, language and grammar by al-Farabi, IbnSina and al-Farabi's pupil Yahyaibn 'Adi (also a Syriac Christian and translator), are to be understood. Al-Farabi and Yahya both present essentially the same perspective on the relations between logic and language, a moderate perspective which IbnSina later rejects. In the Ihsa' al-'ulum, al-Farabi argues that logic and grammar both have some legitimate interest in language, but whereas grammatical rules primarily govern the use of language, logical rules primarily govern the use of intelligibles: "And this art [of logic] is analogous to the art of grammar, in that the relation of the art of logic to the intellect and the intelligibles is like the relation of the art of grammarto language and expressions. That is, to every rule for expressions which the science of grammar provides us, there is a corresponding [rule] for intelligibles which the science of logic provides us." (Ihsa' al-'ulum).
