Sawm is an Arabic word for fasting regulated by Islamic jurisprudence. In the terminology of Islamic law, Sawm means to abstain from eating, drinking (including water), having sex and anything against Islamic law (Ithm). The observance of sawm during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan isone of the Five Pillars of Islam, but is not confined to that month. Sawm is derived from Syriac sawma. Literally, it means "to abstain", cognates to Hebrew tsom. Year of publishing: 1664.
U terminologiji islamskog prava saum znači uzdržavanje od hrane, pića (ukljucujući i vodu), seksualnih odnosa i svega protivnog islamskom pravu. Sprovođenje posta tokom islamskog svetog meseca ramadana predstavlja jedan od pet stubova islama, ali nije ograničen samo na taj mesec. Saum potiče od sirijačke reči sauma. Doslovno, ona znači suzdržavati se, srodna je hebrejskoj reči com. Godina izdavanja: 1664.
