U srpskom postoje mnoge arapske pozajmice, donete mahom preko osmanskog turskog jezika. Primeri tih reči su danas uglavnom prihvaćene i u drugim zapadnim jezicima: admiral, alhemija, algoritam, alkalni, almanah, arsenal, banana, karat, cifra, kafa, jasmin, limun, magazin, madrac, šerbet, sofa, šećer, i mnoge druge. Drugi jezici, kao što su malteški i kinubi, proistekli su iz arapskog a nisu samo pozajmljivali pojedinačne reči i gramatička pravila. Godina izdavanja: 1763.
English has many Arabic loan words, some directly but most through the medium of other Mediterranean languages. Examples of such words include admiral, adobe, alchemy, alcohol, algebra, algorithm, alkaline, almanac, amber, arsenal, assassin, banana, candy, carat, cipher, coffee, cotton, hazard, jar, jasmine, lemon, loofah, magazine, mattress, sherbet, sofa, sugar, sumac, tariff and many other words. Other languages such as Maltese and Kinubi derivefrom Arabic, rather than merely borrowing vocabulary or grammar rules. Year of publishing: 1763.
