Persijski pesnik Sadi smatra se jednim od najvećih srednjovekovnih persijskih pesnika. Jedno od njegova dva glavna dela jeste Gulistan (Ružičnjak) koji se na persijskom izgovara Golestan. Napisano je 1259. god. n. e. i imalo je dubok uticaj kako na Zapad tako i na Istok. Ovo je zbirka pesama i priča. Ovo delo se često citira kao izvor mudrosti. Ono se bavi gotovo svim glavnim pitanjima koja se javljaju u ljudskom rodu posredstvom stila koji odiše optimizmom i tananom satirom. Ima, isto tako, i saveta namenjenih vladarima. U persijskom jeziku postoji opšte poznata izreka: "Svaka Sadijeva reč ima sedamdeset dva značenja", a priče, osim praktičnog, moralnog i zabavnog karaktera imaju i delove sufijskog učenja. Persian poet Saadi is considered as one of the greatest medieval Persian poets. One of his two major works is Gulistan (Rose Garden) in Persian pronounced Golestan. It was written in 1259 AD and had a deep influence both on West and East. It is collection of poems and stories. This work has been often quoted as a source of wisdom. It deals with almost every major issue found in the mankind thorough the style of optimism and subtle satire. There are many advices for rulers, too. There is a common saying in Persian, "Each word of Saadi has seventy-two meanings", and the stories, among their practical, moral and entertainment dimension frequently deal with conduct of dervishes and have fragments of Sufi teachings.
